S.I: You've been going at the production game for a few years now, but everyone has to start somewhere! How did you get started? Were you armed to the teeth with synths and sequencers, or were you banging on pots and pans and tracking it on a microphone?
Haris C: Well, since I was DJing before production, I entered the production by curiosity to be honest. Playing records every night, I was wondering how the hell do they make music?
So, I said one day to buy what I needed for production, and the rest is history! Since then, I fell in love with it fromthe first minute, although it took me some time to make a proper track.I started back in the 90's, playing drums and guitar so I didn't need any pots or pans.
I had a proper drums in front of me! Basically, I started with the VST32 which nowadays is called Cubase, and nothing else. No MIDI keyboards, no synths, no drum machines, no nothing. The funny part now that I remember was that the VST32 could hold only 5 VSTs, so I was limited on sounds. The, Cubase version 1 came out, I got that, then I bought the Nord Lead, then the Roland JP800 and then the Korg MS2000. So every year my productions were getting better from all points of view! Now, I work with Cubase 5 so year by year technology is becoming 'unlimited' and that's why more and more people are getting involved with production.S.I: Go ahead and tell us about your latest production and/or remix!
Haris C: Since December until last week, I was remixing for many artists and my last one that I have finished last week is called 'Tell Me Why' (by Stacker), which probably 99% of all of you might know. It's coming out on Crashing Waves. I was on MSN one day, and Rich popped up and he asked if I am interested in remixing this track, but from the title I couldn't understand what track it was, so when I got the original I was so excited to do it, and I am very very happy with the result; it's a pure Haris C Banging Mix!
Now that I have finished all the remixes I have finished my brand new single called 'Tonight' which is another collaboration with Anthya (who sung on my previous one called 'My Angel'. After that I have 2-3 originals in the works, so I hope before the end of the year that I will have them all finished. Some people are asking me why I don't release many originals and for me the answer its very simple...I can make a song every week but for me what counts more is the quality over quantity.
S.I: And now for something completely different! What is your favorite brand or type of dental care product?
Haris C: Haha! No favorite brand to be honest! I can use either AIM, Aquafresh, Colgate and Oral B Sonic as my tooth brush.
S.I: Glad to see you are not too picky with your dental care, what with the travel you must do as a DJ! This is important for our next two questions!
What is your idea of a dream vacation?
Haris C: Hmm...Basically, my dream vacation that I have on my mind is that I really want to go to the Bora Bora islands and do nothing except for swimming, eating, diving and sleeping. A friend of mine went there and he showed me some pictures, and honestly I was impressed! The funny part is that I am afraid of planes so for me traveling more than 24 hours would be a nightmare. So, I don't think I will ever go there. Especially now that I have my two year-old daughter; it's not so easy to have my dream vacation so I will stick with Ayia Napa for the moment.
S.I: And, do you like ice cream? If so, what is your favorite flavor?
Haris C: Ice cream? Damn I love it, and I eat one every day because it's forty degrees (Celsius) here, and you need to have some ice cream ...And I will choose chocolate as my favorite flavor!
S.I: Bora Bora does sound intriguing indeed...But for the time being I'm more interested in the ice cream. Chocolate is a favorite for me as well, you can never go wrong with chocolate
. And I can feel your pain on that weather, where I'm at it's hitting that mark as well! That's okay though, cause these next questions are for the people that like to stay inside (sort of)!So.. give us some details about any hobbies you might have!
Haris C: Heheh, yeah, chocolate to be on the safe side... But I do have lots of hobbies starting with the production. Then, I like football; I am so insane with my team called APOEL Nicosia, then I really love the Professional GO Karting, of which I was the champion of Cyprus on the 125 cc Rotax Max back in 1997 and 1998. I was driving till early 2004, during which I stopped on account of an accident. Other hobbies that I have include watching F1, scuba diving (I have the PADI Instructor Diploma!) and my biggest one is to have some really quality time with my daughter.
S.I: Have you got any pets? If not, tell us what you wished you could have as a pet at this current time!
Haris C: Nah I don't have pets and if I wished to ever have one, it would be the panda...Damn, so cute...
S.I: And, do you have a favorite movie?
Haris C: Tough question, since I like lots of movies, such as American History X, Star Wars, Harry Potter lol (I know that you might laugh but I love it lol), Men in Black, Saw, Bad Boys, etc. But, I think I will choose the 'The Pursuit of Happiness' as my favorite movie.
S.I: Yes, who doesn't enjoy a good game?
You seem to be quite the active person, between the karting and the scuba diving (I do want to go diving at some point myself, maybe I can get some lessons? It is hard to pick one movie sometimes, it's just like trying to pick favorite music, there's just so much to choose from! Hopefully these last questions are a little easier to decide upon!What did you want to be when you grew up, when you were a kid?
Hairs C: Basically, I was trying to find what I like to do and that took me to decide at the age of 20, after my military service. Then I decided to do automotive engineering and design studies in the UK for 4 years, due to my love for cars. Now though I don't feel that I made the wrong decision, but after I discovered production I must say I should have taken Music Studies, in addition, or by itself! Back in the early 90's the production wasn't easy as it is today, because hardware gear was too expensive and the PCs were working on MS-DOS.
S.I: And, who or what influences you the most in your life?
Haris C: My influences? Hmm, well to me the biggest influence is life itself. Everyday is a different day, with all the ups and downs, so I kind of learn and get influenced by it. I am not the same person that I used to be two years ago, but now after the birth of my child I can see myself 360 degrees different from who I was. I grew up mentally, my priorities have changed, but I am trying hard to keep everyone happy i.e. family, friends, fans (and myself too). I do get a lot of energy from the kid and that helps me a lot with how I see life daily, either at work, or music-wise.
